One of the hormones often confused with giving us pleasure. More accurately dopamine functions as activator of certain parts of the brain, prioritizing this area.

When it comes to the reward center of the brain, the part where we experience discomfort, disappointment and pain is shared by the part that gives us euphoria, pleasure, comfort.

And thusly being disappointed, not getting what you want, is actually contributing to comparatively better experiences that become more attractive merely because of the fact of being framed by things that are less.

Then lastly, what we remember and cherish is focused on the rewarding part. So we store and sherrish what we like and suppress our painful memories.

It is an essential part of the way human beings operate, the core of our motivation based on external stimulation. Essential because the good things we are experiencing are often good for us, meaning our body and thus essential for improving your condition based on feedback of your body.

The problem is when reward or positive feedback has nothing to do with what is good for you. That it is only the reward system itself that is used to reinforce a person’s mood by things that are essentially not good for your body, disrupting the normal function of constructive feedback of what is pleasing and also distorting what is good.
